Dear Eric: On my 'crossings' thru the Internet I found out that this company,Ricko from China has a 1/87 series of models, including one of my favourites: the Maserati 4-door; according to their list, the Lamborghini Gallardo is also offered.I heard that this company does offers models in 1/18 mainly (and at eBay.com and eBay.de that what is offered). I hope that their listings are for real and this info is added to this site. Please, look at the link below: www.rickoricko.com/index.php/product.php?cat_id=2 If there something else that I do not know about it I would like, please,to know (such as the company gave up on these at the last moment and so on). Thank you, Nick K

Nick,
This could be great news! I haven't come across Ricko models in 1/87th scale before. Judging from the Alfas, one might assume a link to the Model Power/Hongwell/Schuco connection - if these actually prove to be 1/87th scale once they are delivered, and if these will be delivered at all. I will contact Ricko's German distributor to find out more.

So we will have different brands offering the same cars, right? The Maserati Quatroporte is a nice reference.
Do you think other Asian manufacturers will now enter in 1:87 category, as happened with 1.18 scale?

Dear Sirs:
The only cars that are similar to others is the Alfa. All the others are not shared to anyone else so far I know, but I could be wrong.
The Chinese been at the 1/87 market for a while, beginning with the New Ray at the early 1990's and diecast copies from Wiking buses. Now there is Widea (superb items) and Ricko and some of the Peak Horse Hong Kong buses and trolleys were 1/87;Welly molded Mercedes trucks at this scale and no doubt there are some more items. I have no doubt that more will come.

I am very very excited indeed about the Ricko announcements. Since this is a Chinese company, does anyone think that one might hope for the Daihatsu Charade (or the Tianjin Xiali TJ as it is known in China) to appear? I guess that right now, Chinese consumers are mainly interested in Western Automobiles - in the latest issue of the fab magazine Intersection there are several fascinating articles on Chinese car culture and the Beijing auto show, and Lamborghinis or Audi TTs seem to be the favorites in China right now. But, looking at the case of Eastern Europe, nostalgia sets in pretty quickly after a few years of unbridled capitalism. I believe that we are seeing more eastbloc models now than ever before, most of them produced for and within the former Warsaw pact countries. Maybe MGM/Trumpeter will someday have to rerelease their fabulous Hongqi, preferably with Mao himself inside. Twenty years from now I wouldnt be surprised to see a H0 scale Shanghai SH760 or a Chang'an Alto, as the Chinese begin missing their own past. Hopefully, Ricko will have a long and successful career in 1/87, a career long enough to finally be able to aim at domestic rather than Western customers.

Dear Skunk:
Your a bit on track here. The Chinese company Peak Horse molded buses and trolleys as they are used in Hong Kong,in 1/76 and 1/87 scales. Other companies keep modeling Hong Kong buses. And,altough on a different scale, this company offered a select amount of Chinese commercial prototypes. And,as I review MAR,there are more popping out. I myself would go for the Beijing jeep and some of their home-made buses (Peak Horse and others are centered on British buses specially made for the HK market) in 1/87. I also do not remember the names, but there were some Chinese cars that resembled late 1950's Chryslers products.I would go for that, too.
First was New Ray;then Hongwell and now Ricko (along with Peak Horse).Let's see what is next.

I don't think there's a market in China for 1/87 models and as for Europe and the US ... hmm, hmm. On the other hand, that Shanghai auto is an interesting vehicle ...

I, for one, would love to see a copy of their 1/18 model of the 1931 Lincoln Model K done in 1/87th.

The Shanghai is supposed to be loosely based on a 1957 Mercedes 220 S, so one could possibly consider a homemade conversion. Are there any UAZ-469 made by anyone? Cause the Beijing Jeep is more or less a direct copy. Apparently the Chinese are already becoming nostalgic about their old Mao-era motorcycles, next step is the old cars. Then, ten years later, people will start collecting 1/87 models... and then I can finally get a Charade.

Ricko makes some 1/18 models that are pretty decent. I wonder what they would consider adding to their 1/87 line. Do they have any licensing agreements with any US manufacturers (1:1)?
