I am interested in all of these unlovable English old beasts.
An Allegro in 1:87 would be a true pleasure! Especially the horrendous Estate version. Mmmmm.

Nice model, how much did that cost?
Shrinking it doesn't hurt the paint, but it is nearly impossible to get decent results without taking the model apart. If it's screwed together, you should be allright.

Brooklin recommended me to a person who can do that for me. The the model will cost me inclusiv shipping about 135 Euro. Excl. transfer-costs. So I don't know if it is possible to take it apart. Cor.

I once owned a 1960 Hillman and really had a ball with it. Love the Plymouth Cricket/Hillman Avengers...they look sorta like little 1971 Dodge Coronets.
I thought the Plymouth Cricket was made in Japan.....was it assembled in England?
Go ahead and try the shrinking process...its actually pretty easy. I agree with Skunk, if you can take the car apart, you will get better results.

The Cricket was made and designed in England by Rootes. All of the other smallish Chrysler imports were Mitsubishis however, maybe that's why you thought the Cricket was Japanese as well.

Skunk, I knew the Cricket was a British Rootes Group car, but I have a Chysler book produced by Peterson Publications that maintained that it was Japanese. I always thought the book may be wrong.....but never discarded the notion that maybe there was a license agreement between Rootes and Mistubishi

The Avenger was labelled as a Sunbeam in France and in northern European countries. In NZ it was called the Dodge Avenger. Later in it's life the name changed to Chrysler Avenger, and later yet, it turned into a Talbot. It was also produced in Brazil (Dodge Polara, Dodge 1800) and in Argentina (Dodge 1500). In Argentina, VW took over the local Chrysler subsidiary and rebadged it as the "VW 1500" - as far as I know this is the only VW labelled passenger car to ever offer a drive train a la Panhard. It was built in Argentina until 1990! My favorite is the "Dodge 1500 Pickup" version built briefly in Uruguay - the structural rigidity left a lot to be desired and most cars literally broke in half in only a few years. I have some old Japanese car magazines, and I cannot find it listed in any of the new car price lists, so I don't think it was ever even offered for sale there. As far as I know Rootes and Mitsubishi never really cooperated directly. For tons more info check out the very interesting www.rootes-chrysler.co.uk/ website.

Dear All:
Now that Hakan answered that, I was wondering if that Hillman was the same one which spawned the Dodge 1800/Polara from Brazil and 1500 from Argentina. I have test reports of the 1800 and the news when that would come (around 1971) to Brazil. This gntleman from Colombia informed me that some of the 1800/Polaras were used as cabs over there, and were not so good. Otherwise, this car had indeed many uses.
