I am interested in using clay to scratchbuild.I have never used it and am not sure what kind to use.I went to the arts and craft store and there are many to choose from.Is there any kind or brand that is preferrable?Thanks for any and all help.

Hi, I checked with an art school and was told of company by the name of, Chavant. There web address is: www.chavant.com ,and are located in Farmingdale, NJ. They produce various types of clay, however, if your intentioins are to make molds from your models, you will want a clay that is sulfur free. They have a sulfur clay, Y2-Klay. I have not worked with this clay, but it was highly recommended. Jerry

Sorry, but the Y2-Klay should have read, sulfur free.

I use modeling clay the same way Cutter does (to fill in the wheel wells and on the bottom). I tried to use it to fill in the windows on hollow castings but it didn't work very well, couldn't get it smooth enough. I ended up using candle wax. I also use the clay to seal around the mold box.
