My drill needs to be replaced, as it is no more balanced after 10 years it works. I'm in doubt on what to choose. I need a precision machine, with good bearings, possibly with footswitch and the most expandibility. Do you think it's better a 230V AC machine or a 12V DC with transformer for precision works? What about makes? I was thinking about Proxxon. And Dremel?
Another interesting choise might be the Proxxon BFW 40/E, a milling system that might be completed with a cross table and a stand to obtain a real miller. Has anybody any experience with this modular miller?

I wish I had your problem. All of my drilling has been done with either a loose drill bit (hurts your finger tips, I used to use a thimble to be able to apply some weight) or one of those little handheld chucks. Never used anything powered...
Do tell us what you end up with. I'll live vicariously through you!

Barnaba, As of now I use bits with small holders for drilling what I need. However, the ultimate tool plan in my modeling is to get a Sherline milling machine with the sensitive drilling attachment. www.sherline.com/2000pg.htmwww.sherline.com/1012pg.htmI got the lathe recently and it is an awesome tool to say the least! At a cool grand for the cheapest version, I have to admit that it is far less than I had feared. However, I am afraid that this puts the Sherline 2000 firmly within my daydream price range.

Hi all: This doesn't help Barnaba in Italy but for those in the US there is the Chinese made milling machine and lathe available at Harbor Freight nationwide. Full price is $350 and it is on sale quite often. I have a friend who bought one; and, likes it.
This thing is about 3 feet long, smaller in other dimensions and may be far more than you modelers are talking of. but it is a miniature device of it's type.
Check it out if you have a Harbor Freight store in your area and need one.
