Dear Sirs:
LACMTA Orange Line opened today,October 29th.The ride will be free all weekend.
One interesting feature: the fare tickets should be bought at the bus stops/stations. And,one can board it at any of the three doors of the vehicle. Roving Inspectors will be make sure that one has the proper fare paid. And one does not need to signal the driver to stop. The vehicle will come to a rest to all of the several stops/stations from this route. Buses run every 15 or less minutes at the peak hours and twenty at weekends. Runs form 04:00 to 01:00 hours (am time).
Edit,Oct 29th and 30th: On its first day - probably because the fare was free - the systen carried 30,000 + passengers and it was not different on Sunday. Lots of Metro employees were giving away a bag with the info about the Orange Line (Schedules, how to use the ticket machines).
I rode on this route today and quite liked it. I also learned that a gift was being given away. More details at the vehicles in 1/87 thread..Today,Oct.30th,the buses were overcrowded as well;worst at the North Hollywood terminal.
Alas, these artic NABIs which serve this route cost in the neighboorod of $600,000 each.

Dear Sirs:
By November first, the Orange Line had more that three accidents in its roster.
Hence,Traffic Enforcement cops are monitoring the major Intersections and the driver has to cross these with care, even if his light is green.

Dear Sirs: The photo below is regarding the ZIS discussion going on another thread. It is a ZIS 154,which is a copy of the GMC TDH 'old look'. It was built from 1947 to 1950, and 1164 copies saw the light of the day. There is a 1/87 miniature of it. There is: home.earthlink.net/~bflop/v_bus45.html As can be seen,it looks almost identical to the GMC version.

Dear Sirs: I heard of this one before and it is a pleasure to see the real one. Only one in existence;hence,is rarer than rare. It is a Mack Highway bus prototype for Greyhound, the MV-620-D. Up to now,I only saw bland photos of it; now,the galeria below shows several takes of this coach, including its very impressive rear end. And,as one would say,it's a Mack! Galeria below: home.earthlink.net/~bflop/clabus05.html Fortunately, there is an exclusive model of it but not in 1/87. A resin version, perhaps?

Dear Sirs:
The GM old look also saw production in Brazil .It looked a tad different than the American version and it was well received but,as I been explained,it had a wrong view of the brazilian market and hence Mercedes became the most popular brand there. If GM would not commited this mistake,is probable that would have been popular in there.
Long Lived? As far as 1997,there were GMC old looks running at the streets of Lima,Peru. Is unknown if these units saw the light of the new century. Alas, another of my favorites,Bussing Senator, also served Peru's Capital, but these are long gone.
Beck buses,an american make that is almost unknown, saw duty at the Highways of Chile.

Hello bus lovers: From 1969 to 1985 I edited TROLLEY COACH NEWS, which was a current events newsletter for the North American Trackless Trolley Association (NATTA) which is now defunct.
I have many old newsletters still available for the cost of postage. It's stale news but might be enjoyable if you haven't read such material before and want to learn about trolleybuses. Lots of pictures.
I have roughly 25 issues available (#34 to #60); however, I am not going to describe individual issues or try to deal on a one at a time basis.
I will pack and weigh a set of what I have (if there is any interest) and see what postage will be by surface mail. Airmail to Europe is now unbelievable for such heavy paper material. You can e-mail me at papa_de_marais@worldnet.att.net if you are interested and I will let you know the cost of postage + a box to put them in.

Dear Sirs: Recently,on my 'visits' to the Internet,I discovered the site below. Portuguese, language, but as far I am concerned, this is a site which covera all aspects of the real and miniature bus and mass transit hobby. At first,I thought that they will only cover Brazilian buses, but that is not the case. The site is also divided by issues: Articles and photos of buses, trolleybuses, minibuses, articulated buses and miniatures that simply blew my mind. The modelers in there are making replicas of very defunct vehicles be it wood(and these are like the plastic ones that you know),paperboard and plastic. Also, there are such things as 'Busfest' in Brazil and,at the miniature section, one can see the models that were exhibited; mostly are artesan done.as the several photos at the miniature section will show. There is a forum as well, and the modelers which crated the bus miniatures discuss what they did and of course, how. Thing is,buses are a very important industry in Brazil. In Sao Paulo, the country's largest city,as of 1990, 55% of trips were made by bus;I do not know the proportion now, but it may be at the same range. Some HO buses are shown as well. It seems that 1/87 scale is getting hold at that country, altough trains are very much of a minority at that country. The site below: www.toffobus.com/index.php The minaiture part is really worthy to be checked. I am now trying to think how to get some of these models.

Nick: It may then be too late for the Prevosts and MCI as they were noted as special orders.
But, if you give TSM a try let us know if they still have any.

Hi all: Go here - www.online-translator.com/url/tran_url.asp for a look at some Russian buses and trolleybuses at a recent exhibition. Scroll down the page for some photos of the ZIS 154, that knockoff of the GMC old look bus. This one is diesel electric. Swamp Daddy
