That would be a Morgan Olson Route Star step-van on a Workhorse chassis. M-O also builds these on Ford and Freightliner chassis, with identically looking bodies.

Another thing to consider is that for the Prototype - their are a few different makes and models and they come in all different sizes. The prototypes are pretty generic as well so the IMO Masterpiece doesn't really have to match any one prototype.
As others have said the only other options that I know of are the Tins Toys and the Johnny Lightning. The Tin Toys is specific model of a Freightliner - I think this is a slightly smaller scale than HO but it can easily be used as a stand in. The Freightliner prototype should be among the biggest of step vans .
The Johnny lightning I believe is supposed to be a GM model (correct me if Im wrong) - and appears to be on the heavier side of Medium Duty. The Freighliner would be Heavy Duty.
IMO The Master piece is a medium duty that appears more realistically sized than either of the other 2 models.
BTW - I just picked up two Jeeps yesterday (absolutly beautiful) ;D - which one of you is going to be the first to gently slice the top off? (passed on the step van for now)

As far as I know, Richard Olson is the first in this group to perform surgery on the Jeep. I have an example.
Incidentally, in the U.S., the van is second only to the Airflow in total sales so far. The Jeep is in third place. What's neat is that the models have only been available in the stores for about a month and the activity so far is very encouraging.

Bill, I'm glad to hear that the new masterpiece vehicles are doing so well. For what its worth I've had a hard time finding them at my local hobby shops. I found several Airflows at an out of town shop a few weeks ago and I'm kicking myself for not buying an Airflow in every color instead of just the one grey one that I bought. Maybe strong sales of these first models will encourage adding different vehicles to the Masterpiece lineup.

Don't worry: Atlas has already placed addiitonal orders for all the Masterpiece models that have been released.
Beyond the ones already announced, we currently have more than twenty new models in development.

Dear All:
Jack already got me the Stepvan (three of them; a couple been 'customized' with real graphics), Airflow,Jeep amd the Austro Daimlres (which I really wanted; love the cars from the 1899-1930 period).
I also add the Mattel Stepvans to the 1/87 scale range; their c1977 USPS Stepvan is a Morgan Olson as well. Tomica also made one, which they call a Dodge; same size as the Playing Mantis/Johnny Lightning Utilitymaster.

Too bad that the Johnny Lightning Utilitymaster step van didn't come in an unmarked version. Lots of potential there.

Well, the Masterpiece van comes in an unmarked version. Lots of potential there, too!

I've got the Masterpiece unmarked step van and have applied decals from Roadblockers, making it a Fire Department Support Services unit, basically a shop truck for the mechanics to run around in.
I'd love to see an unmarked red version of the step van, or a marked version for a Fire Department Water Rescue or Dive Rescue unit.

I'll see what I can do about an undecorated version in red, but various Fire Department designs are in the planning stages.
