They sure are.... I found a Horch at the swapmeet I went to today and I'll post a picture of my 540k (very much in progress...) with these wheels later today.

Nice...
Meanwhile, I wrote an email to Automobilia last night on this subject, and Robert Müller responded immediately. He says "may be, maybe. We're thinking about it." I also recommended making a transkit for the Wiking 540K.
Very nice of herr Müller to reply so quickly, let's hope it comes true...

Looking good!
Are those wheels almost too large, though?

Skunk, they are not properly aligned in the picture so it doesn't look quite right either but the Horch wheels are 0,7cm in diameter (23" converted) which makes them definately too large.

Dear Eric,Skunk:
Doesn't Busch or Herpa sells separate sets of wheels?

I just looked in a Classic Car book, and the 540K (one that looks almost exactly like the Wiking prototype) is listed as having 17" wheels (4.96mm / 0.195"). While I am sure that the 540K came with a plethora of different wheels, that does pose somewhat of a problem.
But never fear, it still looks a lot better than it would on Wiking rims - incidentally, I intend to convert those into steel wheels for another project.

Doesn't Busch or Herpa sells separate sets of wheels? They sure do but none of the sets has these kind of wheels in them. The Horch wheels are of a different kind anyway, this is the only wheeltype I've seen sofar that uses an axle (or actually two half axles) with the nut fixed to the axle. Primitive drawing: Horch 'normal' +||-- --||+ ||-----||

Two half axles?? Are the axles fixed? I'll have to buy one myself. I do envy the Germans, imagine being able to go into a store and just buy the car you want, over the counter... If I want a Horch, it will probably take five weeks.

The half-axles are glued in the middle between the bottom plate and the fender part but they can be removed easily. The same goes for the spare-wheels, these are glued to the inside of the hood (they have even shorter axles) Regarding the envy, I got the Horch from a German shop at a swapmeet last weekend. Although I am in the Netherlands (next door to Germany on the globe) I envy them as well, we just don't have those shops that stock (nearly) everthing either

On the general subject of wheels I find it very nice of Herpa that they now offer four sets of their finest sport rims separately. ;D

Dear Sirs:
This offering from Herpa sounds like good news.
It seems-at least for me-that by the 1970's,Wiking was offering the same kind of wheels for most of their cars.Their 1980's Mercedes Wagon is a different story;its rims are very well detailed.Ditto for the same period's Herpa Mercedes 500 sedan.
