Does anyone remember the VW Taro? The Toyota "Hilux" Pickup truck (pre-Tacoma days) was sold as a VW in Europe. It was quite popular in Sweden due to some tax-loopholes, but I have never seen one anywhere else in Europe. I do remember seeing these, since they were also sold with a hardtop (or whatever it is you call a pickup bed that has solid sides, a roof and doors mounted) they were quite popular with courier companies here in Holland for a while.

Eric, Most folks I know refer to the cover for the bed of a pickup as a cap.

The Taro must be the only VW never offered in 1:87. I hope someone decides to make one some day, cause I need a few Toyota pickups. Should probably sell well in the US, too, they would look good in any American diorama. BillC could always whisper a word in the right ear...

Dear Skunk:
Hmm.... Toyota's Hillux SR5 in diecast: Majorette,Tomica. The current tacoma is offered by Motormax. And that is basically it.
These are a common sight elsewhere so it will be normal to make a 1/87 scale model of it. Perhaps, just perhaps New Ray.After all they did molded (the crude) model of the Mazda B type pick-up...............
