Hi all: I bought quite a few Varney cars and trucks when they were new in the 1950s; they represented a new standard of detail compared to the things that preceded them. In the past year I have been buying various small lots of them on eBay in order to complete my collection of them.
I have posted a few pictures in my Yahoo photo album for those who want to see them. Go To:
(album long gone - link deleted)
and, look at the album entitled, "Varney 1950s HO autos". In the first two photos there are three rows from the top and from the front.
1) Front row: 2 Studebakers at the left, the rest Ford Sedans
2) Middle row: Ford Panel Trucks and Ford Pickup Trucks (and one unknown maker orange Mercedes
3) Rear row: 2 Studebakers on the left, three Ford Sedans in the middle of that row, and on the right a yellow and a blue auto of unknown make and unknown manufacturer
the 3rd and 4th photos are closeups of the 5 Varney cars I painted in the 1962-1965 time frame plus the 3 unknowns plus two pot metal vehicles, a fork lift and a tow motor. The pot metal items are by an old line maker Selley; and they are what I refer to as " metal blob" vehicles. These and similar automobiles were typical of the HO vehicles available before the Varney plastic ones came along. They exhibit no detail at all.
I will post more photos of the larger Varney trucks and crawler tractor and farm tractors shortly.
The photos are a bit fuzzy as my digital is about to fail I think; I will try a film camera later on and see if it does better.
I thought some of you youngsters might want to see what these looked like.
