Dear All: My trips on eBay found this seller which has an extensive selection of 1/87th Scale Vehicle kits.Harry would be happy with the offerings for there are Packard Model kits as well.See below: www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?item=110762696277&ssPageName=ADME%3AL%3AOU%3AUS%3A3160&_ssn=bbuddd1&rt=nc This is the first time I saw these and for me these are new items. When I discovered these under eBay suggestions (to what I just acquired)and sure enough, they were displaying a Checker Marathon kit, which made me think of Joe's (Superba) models. But it is not;seller's name is different. What I like is the good variety of 4-door models.

Dear All:
There is the Hess Oil Company (Amerade Hess Co.) which been offering model trucks (generic makes, unfortunately) on circa 1/50 scale since the early 1960's.I discovered these because one of my former co-workers would receive a model annually from his folks.Last year I discovered that they also made a series in a smaller scale but I got some just right now.The straight trucks (no trailer) approach 1/64 scale, but the semi trailers are close to 1/87th scale. One is a race car transporter with a shape of a PACCAR semi tractor;the other looks like an older Mack.

Don't bother. His models are all illegitimate copies and bad ones to boot.

Dear All:
I already got some of them;I chose the models one does not see often in miniature.I am unable to build them,so I will report these on my inventory as kits.
Regarding what Christian said,I think I heard something about that on another post and now I know this is the Gentleman who has the negative scores.I will be aware, then.

Dear Christian:
Are you interested to see photos of the Hess Trucks? If is fine,I can send the eBay Auction detail to your Letter section. The Tanker is a Mack B series, and is almost the size as the Matchbox collectables one, which was 1/87th scale.

The Checker Marathon should be a copy of the old Magnusson kit. That seller has been around for a couple of years now. Bought something once, but wouldn't advise to, the castings aren't very good. The only thing he has that would spike any interest for me would be the box trailers as they seem to be bashed copies of the Resin Unlimited piece, which is very hard to find nowadays. But then again, I guess I can find happiness without.

Most of these models are copies (unauthorized I think) of Greg's Garage models (Most trucks and buses, '38 La Salle, '49 Ford Convertible, '54 Hudson Jet, etc…), but also of old Magnuson models ('40 Chrysler, Armoured car, '53 Chevrolet, etc… ), and of some Stoney Mountain ('52 Ford convertible) and Vulcan Hobbies ('36 Studebaker).

I believe Sylvain is correct. Most of these kits appear to be copies of Greg's Garage / Vulcan Hobbies / Magnuson / Stoney Mountain. Based on his feedback and the photos he puts on Ebay they do not appear to be quality castings. Some where in the archives of this forum he has been discussed here before about the quality and the copying of these items. I remember some years back our good friend Lee contacted him about copying one of Lee / Jerry's castings. ( A Cord if I remember correctly ) Lee reported back that this individual claimed all castings were his own design. Perhaps Jerry has a clearer memory of this instance.

Copy Cats have flourished on the internet. And, it is easy to copy in resin a vehicle which was resin to begin with. Making moulds and pouring is all that is required. You will notice that few of these people copy detailed plastic or diecast metal items into resin knock-offs; it's too much work. I avoid no-name offerings on eBay. Swamp Daddy

Everyone is entitled to his own opinion. I would advise against discussing any seeming drawbacks of SMCC kits in this particular place, though.
