Hi all: Sad news, basement flooded by sewage backup one week ago . Heavy losses among the trains and vehicles . Computer survived but will have to be moved several times during cleanup and repairs . So, I may be absent from the forums for quite awhile. I will be active later on I hope. It's been a nice run, Swamp Daddy

That really sucks. I'm really sorry to hear of the damage to your collection. Is any of the damage covered by your home owner's or renter's insurance? I hope you didn't loose much of the difficult to replace pieces.

That is really a bummer - hope you are able to recover as much as possible.

Harry:
Sorry about your loss, I experienced one about 20 years ago when a friend lost his collection & train layout, to a broken pipe. It is really heart breaking. When you get back on your feet let me know what you are looking for. I have some items in my collection that I will never use and would donate them to you to if they fit your needs. Buses I do not have, sorry.

I have some computer issues (to go with the flooded basement); but, on the air briefly. some items may be salvagable with being decomtaminated later on. Most orginal boxes soggy messes. Insurance will barely cover redoing the basement. Time will tell. Thanks for your kind thoughts and wishes. When I can back on the air I'll report any progress. have fun and a merry Christmas to all, Swamp Daddy

A final post to this thread. Now, over three months later, all boxes of items moved to external storage are now back in the repaired basement. New carpet down, hopefully, plumbing corrected to where this will not happen again. A check valve is now in the line plus a large shutoff valve for the line should the check valve leak. Insurance covered plumbing, cleanup, new carpet and temporary storage; but, furniture and many video tapes were a loss. At any rate, I now have several months of unpacking boxes, checking items for damage, decontaminating some things, throwing others away and generally trying to put things back where they were. It's a large task ahead; but, fortunately, I can do it at my own (slow) pace when I feel like it. So, let's call it 95% back to normal. Thanks for all the kind comments. have fun, Swamp Daddy
