Yes, this news was announced in their newsletter a few weeks ago. As you say, it's most certainly a '55 Ford.
For my part, I find this very interesting, because even if a few '55 or '56 Ford are already available, we can almost be sure that CMW is going to make a sedan. They stated once on their Facebook page that they were no longer interested in coupes, as they prefer models that they can propose in police, taxi or commercial versions. Of course, they could also make a station-wagon, but perhaps not after their nice '53 Ford.
In fact, one sedan is already available (you've missed Weico's '56 Ford Sedan in your listing, and the 3 others are coupes), but I'm glad about this new one anyway. I already plan to buy 2 or 3 of them. It will depends if they're going to make a Fairlane, a Customline or a Mainline… or the 3 versions…
There is something I'd like to know too about CMW: are they going to offer a '50 Chrysler or not? After all, it should be possible and logical to make a Windsor (I think) on the same base that their DeSoto, Plymouth and Dodge.

I don't care if they do a 50 Chrysler or not. The DeSoto, Plymouth and Dodge they already do are virtually identical to each other, except for the grilles, even though the Plymouth should have a much shorter wheelbase. As you mentioned, I know CMW has said they are no longer interested in coupes, and I think they have also narrowed in on 1940's and 50's vehicles as the focus of their efforts. My interest is in mid to late 60's American cars, and I'm afraid CMW like so many others, has decided that the 50's American cars are the only American cars that will sell in 1/87 scale. I would have been much more impressed if the news had been to move forward with the still born 56 Dodge models that were announced but then cancelled. I would have been much more interested in the 56 Dodge than all those 50 Dodge/DeSoto/Plymouth models combined. I would have been really excited had the news been about a 59 Buick or Dodge (preferably a 2 door hardtop), but those probably aren't mainstream enough (or I might say not oddball enough either as some manufacturers like going that route as well).

Well, if they really do the 'fine car' of the field and they ask the man who owns one - they will produce the delightful 1955 Packard. That's what I want in a dozen colors (loved those tricolor cars) both convertibles and sedans, or whatever. I know it's wishful thinking; but, that's what I want. Swamp Daddy

Jim, I agree with you about that 56 Dodge! No idea why they stopped the project at the time. But I guess they invested a lot in the model already. Ik hope they will pick it up again later. BTW... Weico also has a Customline Stationwagon/Van

I agree about the '56 Dogde, of course, it was a very interesting model. It would be great if they would reconsider doing it
Nevertheless, I welcome this new '55 Ford… and would be interested by a '50 Chrysler. ;D

I believe that GM products are still entirely out of the question on grounds of licensing. Also, and I may be wrong about this, I seem to remember that Chrysler tightened their licensing conditions, too. That could be a reason for the postponed Dodge and in any case the relative abundance of Fords in 1/87.

I'd rather have a '65 Impala, or any Impala for that matter from CMW. Time to start moving into the 60's, 70's, and 80's.

I believe that GM won't license toys or models shorter than 3" to avoid liability related to small parts in the toy safety regulations. 3" x 87 = 261" (21.75 feet) would mean that vehicles that long or longer would be OK. However, even a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado crew cab pickup with 8.2' bed is 259.1" (21.6-- feet) long which is just a little short. So, it looks like medium-duty trucks are the smallest GM vehicles that are likely to appear in HO. But how does that explain the Classic Metal Works '41-'46 Chevrolet pickup in HO that is shorter than 3"?

It's actually 2.25'', but I hear that many model manufacturers are put off by GM's licensing restrictions regardless of the size of the prototype.
