Ok for years I thought the Aurora slot car version of a Ford C cab was just a mistake with a "Mack" nameplate. But here's the real deal Can anybody explain how this happened?

Joe:
This is a memory test. I believe the cab was built by the Budd Company and supplied to both Ford and Mack. While Ford was more popular, Mack also used them. The primary Mack use was for fire apparatus, but they also saw limited use as truck tractors. Mack designated it Model N.
Regards,
Dwight

Yes and no, that is the common story known, but it's not entirely true, read the Wikipedia article for a clarification: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_C-SeriesThe Macks were only produced from 1958 to 1962 and as far as I know the Macks always had the four headlights. Ford introduced the quad lights not earlier than 1960! Here's another one: www.qfc1.org/images/n60.jpgMany of the few N Series Mack tractors produced went to Export markets, the Netherlands in particular. They seemed to fit regulations and spec demands better than other Mack COEs from the era.

I wonder when the model will be released. The C cab exist so it won't be to difficult to make a Mack of it...??

And just to confuse the issue even more, FWD also used this same cab produced by Budd for this truck albeit a different grille and headlight configuration.

That is pretty ugly. Funny how just a couple of minor changes on a beautiful design can become so ugly.

It is a pretty homely looking thing isn't it. And this twin steer 8x6 is just plain ugky, I love it. Amazing how that grille change makes the Mack (and the Ford) a much smarter looker.

It would be interesting to know just how many cabs were shared by different manufacturers. Would certainly make modeling them by making minor changes from an already existing model possible.
