I am very impressed with the Astra, a conversion I had been considering myself for some time. I think I am going to make a Fiat Tipo 3-door some day...

Part 6. - 1983 Fiat Regata 85 S I remember the first time getting in touch with some Miber models: I saw an ad in MAZ, a German HO-magazine, in 1988, in which they promised to bring models of all kinds of interesting protoypes, and fortunately by 1989 / 1990 I had most of them. Unfortunately, the models were all made in one color, with no accents highlighted by any paint or print. So I started with a (very dark blue colored) Fiat Regata in March 1991, which I painted in a light blue, almost silver color (I don't know the original Fiat-name for the color, but I remember seeing a lot of Regatas this way) and highlighted all the necessary details. Modifying Mibers like this really does them justice, see for yourself: uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sabuu_87/album?.dir=d626re2&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a

I love it. My Regatas are all in an awful beige color, as are the BXs I have. But you're right, a lick of paint makes a world of difference!

My BX's are in that same beige, they desperately need a 'facelift'! Well, my plan was to convert indeed one into the actual ('86) facelift version, and keep the other one as a '82 model, but now I'm first going to wait and see what (if...) Universal Hobbies / Editions Atlas comes up with!

I have been planning a BX 19 TRD Turbo Break for some time, but I too decided to wait when I saw what UH is up to. I am also really looking forward to modelling the little extra window in the C-pillar of a facelift BX, so hopefully UH won't do that one. Nor a 16 Soupapes, I have yet to attempt a bodykit and I think it would be fun.

As one of my casting experiments, I made a mold of the Miber BX. I only have one of them, so I felt a bit apprehensive about modifying it, but now there's no problem. I'll have to see how the casts come out, I still haven't quite finished.

Part 7. - 1988 Mercedes 190E In 1989, Mercedes-Benz (and Herpa) facelifted its W124 Series (the later E-Class), recognizable from the plastic side-panels. But the 190-models actually were the first to have these (when facelifted in 1988), however Herpa left this model-update unmolded. In 1994 I reduced the shape of the panels of a facelifted Herpa W124-model and took its bumpers to fit a Herpa 190E, thus becoming a 1988 model. I also added a rearview-mirror to the passenger door and put the 190E on Sportline-rims (from the W124, but also regularly used on 190-models). Painted in Dark Blue with purplish blue side panels and black upholstery, it has found a rather unique place among my vast amount of Mercedes 1:87 scale vehicles! uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sabuu_87/album?.dir=2d13re2&.src=ph

I like the way you operate. It is really a lot of fun to fill the small gaps that there are in the availability of models.

Part 8. - 1996 Mitsubishi Canter First let me start by saying how glad I was (and still am) that AWM introduced a decent model of the Mitsubishi Canter. However, nothing's perfect, and neither was this Canter, at least not to me: AWM made this model with the same box and bed that they offer on their Mercedes Benz Vario and that means that this (smaller) Canter immediately became a top-of-the line 6- or 7-ton model with long wheelbase and big wheels (too big I think, they don't suit the model very well). The Canters I see driving around in real life, are usually the smaller 3,5t models with short wheelbase and small wheels. And, thus, that is the version I wanted to have. It wasn't until 2006 that I got to do this, by combining the bed of a Herpa Mercedes Sprinter and the wheels of a Busch Ford E-350 with the cabin of AWM's Canter. And I am very pleased with the result myself... Finally, a small ("normal") Canter ! uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sabuu_87/album?.dir=c309scd&.src=ph

Part 9. 1965 Fiat-Abarth 595 SS After I.M.U.'s disappointing interpretation of a Fiat 500, Busch fortunately decided to make a decent model of this great little car. Like John Cooper with the Mini, Karl Abarth saw an opportunity in this car to turn it into a little racer by modifying the engine. And thus, the Fiat-Abarth's were born. In Aug. 2001, I decided to recreate the 1965 Fiat-Abarth 595 SS into a model by painting a big red stripe along the sides of a beige Busch 500, hand-painting a black chequered roof, adding some Herpa Minilites (from the Mini Cooper...) and windscreen wipers from Automobilia. Last, I added "Abarth" lettering and the firm's logo, from an old Herpa rally-decal set I still had lying around. Check the final result here: uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sabuu_87/album?.dir=/d626re2&.src=php.s: I know these Abarth's were usually seen with the engine-cover slightly opened, but I didn't want to go into the fuss of cutting the complete rear-end open at the time. Maybe, with enough time on my hands and don't know what to do with it, I might still make that modification !

Nice, chubby little thing. I adore Abarths. Has anyone ever offered a "double-bubble" Abarth-Zagato in 1/87?

Part 10. - 1993 Ferrari 348 GTB / GTS Herpa has made some fantastic models of Ferraris in the 80's and 90's, but after the F50 nothing much happened.... Fortunately, this year Red Line is more than going to make up for that, by offering the complete line-up of contemporary Ferraris! To gap the bridge between Herpa and Red Line models, we would only need decent models of the 348 GTB/GTS, F355, F512M and (M)456 GT. Bburago made a solid metal (keychain)model of the latter, but the F355 was never molded as far as I know. However, creating models of the 348 GTB and GTS yourself is very easy: just paint a 348 tb or ts in a color you like and make sure you paint the skirts as well: voila, the 348 GTB or GTS of your choice!
