Well, here are the first pictures of one of my models! I created this one a few weeks ago: it's a 1963 Citroën 2CV AZU from Brekina, converted into a Dutch "ANWB Wegenwacht" model. Hope you like it! (Since I ran out of silver paint, I still need to add some highlights to the refueller-cap and the horn and flashlight-pole). uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sabuu_87/my_photosSome info about the prototype: the ANWB Wegenwacht was founded in 1946 as a road assistance company for vehicles that had broken down on the road (like the English AA that already existed back then), as happened a lot after WW II, when the few materials that people still owned had deteriorated a lot. The Wegenwacht brigade started with yellow-painted Harley Davidson Liberator motorcycles, which were replaced by Citroën's 2CV AZU in 1960. here are some pictures of the original cars: members.lycos.nl/besteleenden/newpage12.html

Part 2. - 1993 Ferrari 348 Spider this time, a model I created some time ago. In March 1993, Ferrari introcuded its 348 Spider, the most desirable version of their base-model of that time. Herpa already made 1:87 scale versions of the 348 tb and ts, so I had some hope that they would reduce the Spider to our scale as well. Unfortunately they never did, so in May 1997 I did it myself: I took a red 348 ts, cut off the c-pillars and created a folded-down softtop. Then, I painted the car in Nero black with dark red seats and voila, I had my much-desired model. uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sabuu_87/album?.dir=3a47re2&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//uk.pg.photos.yahoo

Part 3. - 1990 Ford Escort CLX 5-drs. By the end of 1990 Praliné introduced its 1:87 version of the new Ford Escort: a welcome addition to Herpa's Opel Kadett and VW Golf, three big sellers and competitors at the European market of that time. Praliné molded the most luxurious Ghia-model, while such a family-car was usually seen on the roads in more basic trims. Luckily, not much later Rietze decided to mold the Escort Clipper (wagon-version) in the more basic CLX-version. So, in February 1992 I decided to add a 5-door Escort CLX and a Ghia-version of the Escort Clipper to my collection: I took a silver Praliné Escort (resembling Ford's Moondust Silver available for the Escort) and gave it all the items it needed to become a CLX: Rietze wheels, bumpers painted in Graphite Grey with a red stripe and an interior painted in a grey tint to resemble the Escort CLX interior in Slate grey. This was the result: uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sabuu_87/album?.dir=6318re2&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//uk.pg.photos.yahooNext time, I'll show you the result of the Escort Ghia Clipper.

Very fine work !
How did you do the red stripe ?
I have just purchased Microscale decals of red 1 and 2" stripes in N Scale for painting my old Mongram 1989 Pontiac Grand Prix models.

I made the red stripe by cutting a very thin line out of a piece of red tape with a sharp knife. This was an annoying method, beacuse the cut piece tends to curl when you cut it and tends to loose it's stickyness. But it was exactly the color I wanted it to be, because the decal stripes I had were too bright (and too thick). So, after cutting the same pieces for about 5 times each or so, I took a bit of paper-glue and dipped them in it; then I pushed the stripes onto the bumpers and both sides, let it dry and then peeled off the excess glue. I had come to find that decals only work well on straight surfaces, when I tried to use it around corners or so, they usually broke... I have however used black decal-stripes on my Monogram Pontiac Grand Prix as well, to devide a two-tone scheme (blue and silver) and that worked like a charme! So, good luck (and have fun) with your Grand Prix and let us enjoy the result!

Part 4. - 1990 Ford Escort Ghia Clipper As described in Part 3, in March 1992 I was left with the body of a Rietze Ford Escort CLX Clipper and the wheels of a Praliné Escort Ghia. I combined these parts to create a 1990 Ford Escort Ghia Clipper, a version of the Escort Clipper that was only available in the UK and France. It wasn't untill the facelift of the Escort-range in Sept. 1992 that this model became available in Germany, and finally by mid-1993 it was intoduced in Holland as well. So, my model can only resemble a French car, since cars from England have their steering wheel on the right side... To become a true Ghia, I added some chrome strips to the bumpers and sides, a rear windscreen-wiper and partially body-coloured bumpers. To replace the horrible baby-blue that this Escort left the Rietze factory in, I painted the car Moondust Silver. uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sabuu_87/album?.dir=6318re2&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//uk.pg.photos.yahoo

Great! I love when these very dull "vanilla" prototypes are modeled, it's usually more interesting than always seeing the top-of-the line versions. The detail differences are often quite exciting as well, and these models always benefit from a second and third look.

Part 5. - 1991 Opel Astra GLS 5-drs. Thanks for all the nice comments, I've always liked the bread-and-butter cars of our world. Fortunately, more and more manufacturers (Brekina, Norev, Atlas) seem to realize that! This time, I'll show you a model of the 5-door version of the 1991 Opel Astra, a model that I created by cutting the rear-end off Rietze's 4-door Astra and putting the rear-end of the 3-door model back onto it. I re-used the original windows of Rietze's 3-door and continued the rear doors on them by painting it with some black paint. Unfortunately, it's always rather difficult not to scratch (or even break) the windows of a Rietze model when you take them out of the model or put them back in, as you can see at the drivers' side door! Finally, I smoothened the gaps between the 2 parts, sanded them and painted the car Cosmos blue. Here's the result: uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sabuu_87/album?.dir=/a45dscd&.src=ph
