This is one of Joe Fay's castings. Actually my favorite since the White 5000 is one of my favorite trucks. I modified the sleeper from Joe's casting. I wanted to do the production sleeper. It was narrower than the cab and had twin square pipes directly behind the cab. The semi streamlined cab wasn't too successful. They followed up with a square Freightliner type aluminum cab which stayed in production for a number of years. As you can see, I'm not finished yet.

Looks great Carter I never noticed the square pipes. Interesting will have to do some searching. Steve D

Well I see a square tube on this truck but I wonder if it's not for the snorkel air intake or exhaust. I can't imagine a painted exhaust would hold up under high temp. Great looking casting from Joe and you've given it a real nice stance Carter. I might suggest that you drill out for the headlamps and place a piece of styrene rod in the holes for each. Just concave the end of it a little and it makes a very convincing light. (see Freightliner pic below)

In fact a little further research shows that the square tube is just that, the snorkel. Here's the other side of the same truck.

Goodness sakes you are correct. I have to make a modification. But I checked first, I really thought the exhaust was square too. The photo below is what I used to detail the back of the cab. I looked at it a hundred times and still was convinced that the exhaust was square.

Regardless Carter, you've got a great looking truck, I like your choice of wheels too.

I fixed the pipe. It's round now. Almost done except for the mirrors.

Oh very nice and much better lighting for the photo too Carter. Headlights look super. By the way, I really like that trailer.

Sunlight does wonderful things for photography. It stopped raining for a few minutes. The trailer is the new outside rib Athearn.

I'm working on a 1961 Dodge C-800 mixer. The cab casting was done by Steve "the shrinker" DelSesto. The other parts are all from an Athearn mixer. I shortened the frame, moved the rear wheels inboard, and shortened the mixer barrel. I wanted a family resembelence to the other mixers I've done. I think I'll make the front bumper white. I also might do the headlight surrounds. Havn't figured out how to weather the grill.

Ah, those blasted curved windshields. My results look the same every time. But I'd say that you don't really notice so much there Carter. The nice job on the rest of the truck takes your eye away from it. Gotta love those Athearn Mack wheels eh? You're putting together a good looking fleet of drums there.
