I found the article on this website titled, "How to make an 87th scale Formula 1 model" and I figured I'd give it a try. Using the links provided I was able to find drawings of the Ferrari F1-2000, and the project began. I have two nights of work into it and today I hope to finish up the construction, so I can move on to painting. Here are some of the highlights.. This is after day one, the main body has been rough cut and both wings have been completed. The side walls of the side pods were curled to shape before being glued in place. This was by far the hardest part. After some shaping its starting to look like an F1 car. I couldnt resist a quick mockup..

Holy moly! You work rather quick, I must say! I would love to see some pictures of other things you have made.
Looks great so far. What are you planning on doing for decals and such?

I wasnt able to find a tube so I am turning a set out of balsa. Should look fine after detailing.
This is acctually my first project in 1/87th scale, I dont have hardly anything in this scale, a couple of trains from when I was a kid but thats it. I decided to make this car in this scale because of the article that I mentioned. I also printed out the drawings to do one in 1/160th if I go totally insane. There's a snowstorm going on right now so I just might have to get started on that.
Decals are still a toss up, I've been looking for anything that I can use for it but no luck so far. I bought one of those do it yourself kits and I'll see if my printer is up for it. but if all else fails I am going to hand paint the graphics. I'm not looking foreward to it but I will if I have to. I would really like to keep this under a week so that doesnt leave much time for shopping.

Too bad you only have a week. Otherwise www.decalprint.de would probably have been able to help. Good luck!

I wasnt able to find decals or print them properly, my printer wont print accurately in this scale. So I'm left with hand painting it. That alone will probably take all week. Construction is done, primer is drying right now..

You sure that's 87th scale? And it's only taken you a few days? Again, good work. Will you make a Facel Vega next?

Paint is a disaster! I knew this project was going too well. I guess I'm stuck for now. I dont have the money to get paint stripper so this one week project will be shelved until I can. I hate these road blocks because I hardly ever get back to them. Urg, this is frustrating. See for yourselves...

I spent most of today carefully polishing the paint then putting another couple of coats on in an attept to save the paint. Luckily, it worked! I need to do a final polish tomorrow then I can move on.
