Me.... I have never taken the time to learn the various programs used to make lists. Life is to short and there is so much to do. ;D

Like others, I use a spreadsheet to keep stock of my collections. The info includes serial number, model maker, item number, name and year of prototype, colour of model, date of purchase, etc. I open a fresh spreadsheet for each year.

Much like Chester, I stopped listing as I started cannibalizing. Does one list a model one intends to break for parts? Does one list a model one MIGHT break? Hah, now I feel like some junkyard owner, talking about "breaking" cars.

Dear Skunk:
When I list Jack's modified models,I put a note number at the manufacturer reference, and at the note section I list the models which 'colaborated' to create the said modified miniature.

Hi all: Yes, I agree listing can be a sub-hobby and also a thing to keep up interest when money isn't there. I have been through 3 moves in 10 years. Some things have never been unpacked.
I am mainly a model railroader but I have a large collection of vehicles too. And as I have over 50 large storage boxes (the cardboard kind you get at office supply store to hold old 8-1/2 x 11 inch files) a list is mandatory to find which box items are in when I set up a trade or sell something. So the list is very useful too.
I find it much easier to update now that is on a computer file. New models usually reside on my modeling table until I get them in the list database then I either store them or put them on my layout.
I agee with most of the posts about the various aspects of the "list making hobby" and all of them are of use at one time or another.
