Nice workspace fJohn. and I agree, the tree is spectacular. I know this is a vehicle forum, but I'd love to know how you did it.

cfesmire & eexjoe, I will do my best to explain the process, but I will be breaking the rules of this list. The technique has been around in Model Railroading for 25 years or so. There is a good article on it the the 1999 March/April issue of the Narrow Gage & Short line Gazette, by Paul Scoles. ( or you can get his " how too DVD ": at: paulscoles.com/Description.html ). I bought some of the trunks pre-made from : www.bragdonent.com/index.htmI also bought the treated " Caspia " foliage from him. You might have to call him, as it's not always in the catalog. The tall tree trunks ( 24" ) I made out of 1/2"square balsa wood. Carving them with a pocket knife. Then a rasp file , then a wire brush for texture. Stain them with Gray & White acrylic paints. When dry, you poke holes in the truck with a push pin, and glue the Caspia branches in , working your way down. ( Use White Glue ) Then give the caspia a light coat of gray spray paint. While wet, you sprinkle on the finest woodland scenics ground foams, work from dark to light green. Then seal the whole tree with " Aqua Net" unscented hair spray to secure all the foam. You may have to add hair spray as you go along in order to get enough foam to stick. Takes about 45 minutes to make a tree, after the trunk is prepared. It is quicker to build 3 at a time. Here are a few shots of mine on the layout. farm2.static.flickr.com/1241/1467015990_cebfc3fb30_b.jpgfarm2.static.flickr.com/1350/1429116704_7342468072_b.jpgI thank you all for allowing me to stray from the rules to explain the process. Best wishes, F. John

Hey, if it wasn't for my HO scale model RR layout, I'd most likely just collect diecast cars in 1/43rd to 1/18th scale.

Really nice work!! I am somewhat surprised that the trees have remained uncut being as Jim runs a full blown logging operation.

Very nice. And it's nice to see that someone actually models a cut stump that is cut correctly. Nice steam donkey too.

I would like something like that for myself. However, the necessary mortgage for me to have a work area like this would mean that I would have to stop buying models.

Dear All:
With 24,000 + miniatures plus literature around the apartment, I am lucky that I can still move there! Space is at premium here. Otherwise, yeah, Eric's working space is vey neat; liked that.

This is my portable workbench. It goes in the home office next to the desk. I fold it up every night, and carry the toolbox down to the basement. Actually I have a workbench in the basement, but most work is done upstairs with my wife and four cats nearby.
