Then there's the difference between American and British English! Something to remember when you are walking down the pavement and a car goes past with a noisy silencer. Sorry, I meant walking down the sidewalk and a car goes past with a noisy muffler!

I sometimes think the Americans and British have a larger number of different terms for automotive components than the number of ones we share.
Of course, in the U.S., the terms actually used in the industry, like backlight and rear-quarter panel, also differ from the terms used by most consumers.
