Hi there, has anyone ever heard of or perhaps even seen these models: item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=14336863845I came across them on eBay and ordered a set, but I'm wondering if these are really 1:87! They mostly resemble the surprise-egg models (like the ones for Smart) in style, but there are some interesting models here (like the Alfa Romeo MiTo). On the internet, they are mostly referred to as 4D self-assemble or 4D 1:87 models. They appeard to be made in China or Singapur (former Miber territory ;D) greetz, Sander

Sander, I also ordered a set from Ebay and they should arrive any day now. I found another set of cars by the same manufacturer on the internet: www.eachgame.com/goods-12704.html. Based on the link you provided and comparing one of the pictures to a Murcielago by Ricko, it appears that they are indeed very close to 1/87 (I'm comparing the length of the figure in the same position holding the model). Not very scientific but reason for optimism. Besides the Mito, the set of 16 cars shows an early 2000's Honda Civic Coupe 2 dr Type R, a Honda Odyssey, a Ferrari California and the Lamborghini Aventador. Others include the Jaguar XK, Porsche Carrera and Cayman, Nissan 300ZX, MB CLK350, MB 600L, Land Rover, Subaru Impreza and BMW 745i. The Aventador even has opening swivel doors so if these models are in fact 1/87, this will be very good news. I will update everyone as soon as the package arrives from Singapore.

Mark, The 12 piece set is 1:64 scale as far as we can believe the boxes. Cor_DutchArt - You are right, the 12 piece set is 1:64 and the models are metal alloy. The 16 piece 1:87 set is made of ABS plastic. The reason I listed the 1:64 scale models was to make the point that 4D went to the trouble of listing the scales on their packaging. This gives me hope that, unlike the egg models, they are actually made to the scale they list on the package. We will have to see when I actually get the models. I believe that 4D also makes cityscape puzzles. They are manufactured in China. They may well be the company that makes these models as well.

Dear Nick,
How did you manage to get the 1/87 models? All together or each chosen individually? Which kind of payment?
Cheers
Francois

The 16 4D 1/87 models arrived today and the good news is that they are indeed 1/87 scale.
While I didn't measure each of the models individually, next to other models in my collection, they look correct. The Integra R measures 50 mm in length compared to 4380 mm for the real car (1/87.6). The MiTo measures about 1/85 or 1/86.
The mouldings are good and they have painted details (grill, logos) although these are not that well done. The problem will be that they have opening doors which will of course create out of scale gaps in the bodywork.
Nonetheless, we have some models of autos never done in 1/87 and I am sure that some of the members of this forum can work their magic to turn these into little gems.
My purchase included the entire set of 16 from Singapore (via Ebay.com) and cost a total of $15.99 including shipping. For that price, I can live with some minor imperfections.

www.eachgame.com/goods-12703.htmlThis is someone in HongKong They offer discount prices. Starting with $ 6.15 The more you buy the cheaper they become. That's great news Mark! And a very good price too. Less as $1 each. The one I found counts much more for shipment only. (about $ 22,=) But then they still are under $ 2.= each.

That Mito looks much more than a VW Golf to me... And if at all like Alfa, I would say more like a 147.

That Mito looks much more than a VW Golf to me... And if at all like Alfa, I would say more like a 147. Very good eye for detail! Looking carefully at the model, it is indeed a 147 and not a Mito. The tail lights on the Mito are round and these are not, they are thin and curved. In addition, it actually has screen printed "147" on the rear. Another disappointment is the "Ferrari California". After pulling it out of the packaging, it is actually a Porsche Boxster, not a Ferrari. Luckily Red Line's Ferrari California cannot be beat but this is certainly a case of mislabeled packaging. Nonetheless, the models are molded nicely even if they are not always what they claim to be on the package. With a little paint and detailing, they will be okay models. As I love exotic sports cars, paying $16 for the whole lot is okay as long as the Aventador is included and accurate and I am happy to say that it is.

Although I haven't received the models yet, I am already disappointed! The MiTo is actually a 147, the Ferrari California not even a Ferrari at all (but a Porsche Boxster!) and I'm pretty sure the Aventador is actually a Murcielago. All in all, they are not what they say to be and it looks to me that most of the models are actually just copies of Schuco models (only the Japanese items are not). If this kind of mislabelling would happen in the States or Europe, it would be lawsuits all over!!
