If you mean with caboose the MACK locomotive, it is an free interpretation of a picture that I found in a book about heavy transport in the 1930's in France. At the picture you see a Bernard truck pulling such a trailer with a steam locomotive. It was such a special combination that I had to make it some way.

You've done a beautiful job again Jeroen. The progress on the Case traction engine is great. Wonder about the pneumatic tires on the yellow AC. Very nice spoke wheels there. As for coal, I found some bags that accompany electronics from the factory used to control humidity have charcoal granules in them that are perfect 1/87 chestnut coal (chestnut being the size of the coal nuggets burned in the fire boxes of the steam engine)

Wonderful models!
I am curious about the use of these units. Were they used to handle the draft horses of the department, or was it more for rescue of horses?

That why it was grey. They painted the next crane, till afther WWII, grey. The cranes were used for all kind of rescue. In that period the most importent one was rescueing horses out of the canals. Probelly a typical Dutch problem

Probelly a typical Dutch problem Well, it is not a uniquely Dutch problem and remains relevant almost a hundred years later! On the local news tonight there was a story about a horse that wandered into a swimming pool, and was rescued by the fire department using a hoist on a fire truck with an improvised sling. From Forest Lake, Minnesota, USA forestlaketimes.com/2012/08/29/horse-rescued-from-swimming-pool/
